Alexina Medley is in her eighth year as principal of the newly chartered Warren Easton Charter High School. She was instrumental in reopening the school following the devastation of the failed floodwalls. She researched the viability of charter schools and completed the charter school application so that Easton could reopen for the 2006-2007 school year.
Mrs. Medley received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Xavier University of Louisiana in December of 1978, with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education—Learning Disabilities. She completed her Master of Education degree from Xavier, with a major in Educational Administration and Supervision. She certified as Principal, Supervisor of Student Teaching, and Secondary Special Education. She also completed Reading Specialist and Computer Literacy certification, and was listed in the National Dean’s List. She is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. She is currently a fellow with the School Leadership Center of New Orleans.
Mrs. Medley has been instrumental in the continuous improvement of the school and has dedicated herself to increasing student achievement. She is currently a board member of SEDL, an educational organization that specializes in research-based school programs, such as after school instruction and activities, to improve student achievement.
