Dr. Lucy Hansen is an innovative educator who has been serving the needs of California students for over 30 years. She has served as an elementary school teacher, program specialist, and curriculum commissioner for the state of California. Currently, she is an elementary school principal and adjunct college professor teaching learning theories and cultural proficiency.

Additionally, Dr. Hansen has worked as a consultant in the area of English language learning. As principal of Agua Caliente Elementary School, where 96% of the students receive free or reduced lunch and 70% are English language learners, Dr. Hansen provided leadership that transformed the school’s culture and instructional process.

Dr. Hansen will share the school’s challenges and successes, and how the school is using content-based science English Language Development (ELD) instruction with a focus on literacy to embrace the Common Core and give students the equitable foundation they need to be successful 21st century learners.
